‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ is off to a strong start. For, it has now topped the weekend box office.

According to studio estimates on April 10, the filmed earned $71 million and bested another major release: Michael Bay’s ‘Ambulance.’
More importantly, ‘Sonic 2’ earned more that its predecessor, which opened with $58 million during its first three days of release.
President of domestic distribution for Paramount Chris Aronson said in a statement:
“The normal pattern domestically is that sequels slide a little bit. But we certainly bucked that trend.”
He goes on to call the films revenue increase “quite remarkable.”
